Snow cancels hundreds of flights

Snow moved into the Chicago area Friday afternoon, leading to potentially slick roads during the evening rush hour.

Accumulating snow, freezing rain, sleet and more snow were all expected in different parts of the region, but where you live will determine what you see and when.

A winter weather advisory was issued for several Chicago-area counties as a powerful burst of snow could dump several inches in some communities.

Advisories were issued for McHenry, DeKalb, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee counties in Illinois and Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties in Indiana beginning Friday afternoon and evening.

Once the storm system is expected to clear out of the area by Saturday afternoon.

Then temperatures take a nosedive as the coldest air of the season arrives. Readings are expected to drop into the single digits by Sunday morning, with wind chills as low as -20 degrees.
