The veteran actress took to Twitter to criticise 18-year-old, Dangal starlet Zaira Wasim who announced yesterday that she was bidding adieu to the film industry because it was interfering with her faith.

Tandon took the low road by slamming Zaira as a ‘two-films old’ and her decision to quit the field as ‘ungrateful’. She shared how she could leave but did not have to be so vocal about her ‘regressive views’.

She wrote, “Doesn’t matter if two film olds are ungrateful to the industry that have given them all. Just wish they’d exit gracefully and keep their regressive views to themselves.”

Zaira had made her decision public on Sunday, explaining how her choice of work was meddling with her religious course of life which led to the ‘disassociation’.

“For a very long time now it has felt like I have struggled to become someone else. As I had just started to explore and make sense of the things to which I dedicated my time, efforts and emotions and tried to grab hold of a new lifestyle,” Wasim shared, “It was only for me to realise that though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here.”

Tandon explained why she was offended by Zaira’s choice of words, “Exit is your choice, reason, by all means. Just do not demean it for everyone else.” She described the industry as the place “where all work shoulder to shoulder, no difference in caste and religion,” so she rendered the young star’s reasoning unnecessary.

That said, this is certainly not the last we’ve seen of Zaira yet; her upcoming biographical film, The Sky Is Pink features Wasim as Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar’s daughter, Aisha who is battling pulmonary fibriosis.

Other reactions on Twitter have supported Zaira’s choice and wished her well for future.
