A California-based tech millionaire has been found dead after being kidnapped from his home in Santa Cruz, California.

The body of Tushar Atre was discovered 14 miles from his lavish Pleasure Point oceanfront property, police confirmed on Thursday.

Two days earlier Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert that a number of assailants had burst into his house at 3AM and kidnapped him in his own white BMW.

The car was found seven hours later in the Santa Cruz mountains, with a body inside; officers confirmed the identity on Thursday morning. They did not say how he was killed.

Atre was the owner and CEO of Atrenet, a web development and design company he named after himself.

While detectives believe the motive was robbery; others claim it may have been more personal.

An anonymous person who identified themselves as a “friend” of the deceased told San Francisco station KPIX5: “Atre made enemies over his business deals. And not specifically with his company.”

Employment rating site GlassDoor also contained a number of critical posts from people claiming to have worked under the tech entrepreneur.

Residents of the area, where homes easily fetch $2 million and upwards, expressed their shock over the crime on social media.
