Pakistani author Shazaf Fatima Haider’s second novel A Firefly in the Dark is going to be adapted into a television series.
The author announced the news on Twitter and said, “Very excited to announce that A Firefly in the Dark is becoming a TV series. I still balk at the ‘for the entire universe and for all perpetuity’ but. Sleep deprivation and some amount of nervousness in my smile while I sign the contract here.”
A Firefly in the Dark focuses on how a supernatural entity creates trouble for a family.
The story follows Sharmeen, whose life is disrupted when after an unexpected tragedy, she moves into her Nani’s rambling ancestral bungalow with her family. Hating how her life has turned out, Sharmeen turns to the world of Nani’s fantastical tales of Jinn, shapeshifters and other dastardly creatures for solace. Slowly, unseen forces that had lain dormant for centuries start to awaken and Sharmeen meets her own personal Jinn, the prankster Jugnu, who reveals her family’s history.
Haider’s debut novel How It Happened was released in December 2012 and revolves around unrest caused in Pakistani families when young people choose life partners for themselves.
