In the latest statement, Mahela Jayawardene has revealed that the worst days of Sri Lankan cricket has gone. Of late, they have sorted out management positions and their leadership for the national team. During a special interview with The National on January 17, Jayawardene, the Ex Sri Lankan captain remarked that he had been satisfied with the fresh engagement of Chandika Hathurusinghe as the new coach and the decision of the reinstatement of Angelo Mathews as the limited-overs captain for upcoming matches.
2017 could be considered as a least memorable year for Sri Lankan cricket team as they limped from one crisis to other both on and off the pitch throughout the entire year. Aside from the loss to poor Zimbabwe during a one-day international series at home, they even remained unsuccessful making the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy. Later they had to endure the bitter experience of bilateral home series whitewashes against India in the Test, Twenty20 internationals and One Day Internationals ahead of being beaten in all formats of the game during their return series.
People pointed out and allegations of corruption had been made from another past Sri Lankan captain, Arjuna Ranatunga. Ranatunga had served the squad as nothing but an unnecessary interruption for Sri Lankan Cricket team. Even, an inquiry team had been prepared in the other to look into the problems after the mass resignations of national selectors. They only managed to win the match over Pakistan in the UAE. It was indeed a harsh year for the Sri Lankan Cricket team. Jayawardene also admired the decision of employing their new coach, Chandika Hathurusinghe.
