Nepal Asks To Make SAARC More Effective In Reality

As per the latest reports, Nepal has asked to increase the effectiveness and result-orientation of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). The founding body and present chair of SAARC, Nepal has emphasized the requirement of additional strengths in the regional bloc that celebrated the 33rd year of the signing the agreement of SAARC Charter. It also highlighted that the decision was taken to accelerate the process of growth and progress and develop living values of the people across the province. SAARC is an organization that is used to consist of seven nations but now it is an eight-member bloc after the entry of Afghanistan in the year of 2007.

Mani Prasad Bhattarai, committee chair and chief of the Regional Organisation Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized on the matter and stressed on the functioning of the decisions made by SAARC and its subsidiaries during the meeting of the 54th SAARC Programming Committee that held at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu on December 12. He also remarked that the activities must have to be people oriented and he also sought for coordination and cooperation in between the member nations for further growth and progress.

Amjad Hussain B Sial, the Secretary-General of SAARC remarked that the member states are continuously trying to strengthen the process of SAARC. While discussing various issues, he remarked the mechanisms of SAARC should be rationalized as proposed, in case everyone agrees with the calendar of activities, it would become more effective in reality.  Sources informed that the two-day meeting will highlight on the budget issues of the SAARC five regional centres, four specialised bodies and SAARC Secretariat and about 50 people are likely to participate in the event.
