JMM Chief Shibu Soren Issued Notice Against His Party MLAs for Organizing Kissing Competition
The news of kissing completion at a village fair in Jharkhand went viral on social media and other media outlets for quite some time. Now it seems that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLAs (JMM), who were allegedly among the organizers of the competition, will face the heat from the party. Soon after getting the report of the involvement of party MLAs Simon Marandi and Stephen Marandi, JMM Chief Shibu Soren has issued a show cause notice with their names and asked them to submit a reply within a week.
The competition was organized in the presence of JMM MLA Simon Marandi and Stephen Marandi at a village in Jharkhand’s Pakur district on Sunday, December 10. Simon along with another JMM legislator Stephen Marandi allegedly organized the competition and courted the controversy. Party chief Shibu Soren, the former chief minister of the state also hailed from the tribal region.
The incident drew huge criticism from the political class, as the BJP did not waste the chance of criticizing the JMM and demanded suspension of two JMM MLAs from the Jharkhand Assembly alleging that they have insulted the local culture and tradition. State vice president of BJP, Hemlal Murmu said that such activities have never been a part of the Santhal culture and it was a clear insult to the woman power.
Defending the activity, Simon, however, said that the competition was organized to stall the increasing number of divorce cases in the area. The video of the competition went viral on social media, where many users were seen lauding the effort of the organizers. In the video, couples were seen kissing each others, while the crowd cheered them from behind.
