LONDON — Newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting a baby in the spring, the royal household announced on Monday.
The news came as the couple arrived in Sydney at the start of a 16-day tour of the South Pacific and Australia, a constitutional monarchy whose head of state is Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The pair were married on May 19 in a lavish wedding ceremony at Windsor Castle which was watched by millions of viewers around the world.
The event was attended by stars of sport, music, film and television, including Oprah Winfrey, David Beckham, Elton John, Serena Williams and George Clooney.
Kensington Palace said the couple “appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding day” and were “delighted to be able to share this happy new with the public”
