Indian-American Couple Donated $1 Million to Kennedy Centre
In order to create an India fund through Performing Arts, an Indian-American couple donated $1 million to the Kennedy Center. The amount has been gifted by the couple for producing and presenting Indian programming through 2025. Entrepreneur Ranvir Trehan, his wife Adarsh and their Trehan Foundation will donate money to India fund.
While speaking on their activities, Trehan, who is also a member of the Kennedy Center’s Board of Trustees, said that a reinforced programming has been witnessed there, but he believes that there is a more if it. He added that well-known artists for both experimental and fusion forms were the part of Performing Art programme.
He also said that comedy in the English language has become popular in India and they are planning to tap up something from there. He said that he hopes that the seed money will inspire other Indian-American to provide more fund. Mr. Trehan added that the India Fund will be used in organizing festivals that will highlight the history, traditions, arts, literature, dance and culture of India.
While speaking on the issue, the president of Kennedy Centre Deborah F. Rutter said that it is country-focused initiative and the fund will be utilized to help emerging artists, musicians and other performers. Praising the effort of Trehan Foundation, Navjet Sarna, the Indian Ambassador to the U.S., said that this is the encouragement that Indian people need.
The ambassador said that one can enjoy multiple streams here in the U.S. and there is no scarcity of Indians. He also hinted about the collaboration with the center. The three-week festival drew nearly 400,000 people, which is a record number for a country-specific festival.
