Li Jinqiang, a Chinese national who went missing from Islamabad’s Super Market on April 13 was found dead in Rawalpindi’s Iqbal Town area on Friday.
According to police, the deceased was 29-year-old and had arrived in the federal capital last week. Police recovered his body from a drain with marks of injuries on his head.
According to a first information report (FIR) filed at Kohsar police station on the complaint of a friend of the deceased on Thursday the Chinese citizen “had left his mobile phone, passport, and luggage behind in his room” when had gone out to buy medicine. The FIR further said he did not know the “local language”.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Umar Khan told a local media outlet that the body has been sent to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) hospital for a postmortem examination and it would be “too premature at this stage to say anything about it being a murder”.
“The injuries on his head do not point to the use of a knife or bullet. They seem to have been caused by a rock or a stick. But the true facts will only emerge after the postmortem report is released,” he added.
The cause of death remains unknown as of yet. The police official said a murder charge would be added to the FIR if it was ascertained.
