The 22-year-old Asmat has gone to the hospital for treatment of toothache.
At least four medical officials, including a doctor, at a government hospital were said to have been involved in the alleged rape and murder of a woman patient who had come seeking help for toothache, reported on Monday.
26-year-old Asmat Junejo, a resident of Ibrahim Hyderi, had gone to the Sindh Government Hospital in the locality seeking medical help for toothache. There, however, a doctor, with the help of three other officers, drugged, subdued, and raped her, then poisoned her.
According to reports, the alleged primary suspect has not been arrested yet and declared absconding, whereas three of his accomplices — identified as Amir, Shahzaib, and Wali Muhammad — were detained and presented in a court of the Judicial Magistrate (District East). They were subsequently sent to jail on judicial remand.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, on the other hand, took notice of the incident and was reportedly upset with the police. He asked: “Tell me which elements are involved in the rape and murder of the patient?”
Shah, who said “the death of a patient suffering from toothache is painful for me”, ordered the police to register a first information report (FIR) of the alleged rape and murder of Asmat Junejo, start an investigation, and report the progress to him.
“Such incidents are intolerable,” he underscored.
