Obama Praises India for Signing the Paris Climate Deal
The US government applauded India’s confirmation on the Paris climate agreement. Barrack Obama, the US President has said that by supporting the pact, Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister and Indians have brought forward the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhiji had no affection for his life. He developed that state of mind when the nation was in the grip of hatred and violence. He desired that all-embracing power should take him away from the gorge of tears. He always prayed to the almighty to take him away as he honestly felt that his words lost effectiveness.
East Asia Summit was held in Laos during September. Other than speaking in the meet, both leaders talked about issues of climate change separately. That discussion was important for strengthening the relationship between the US and India.
Obama’s presidential term will be completed by the end of January 2017. Obama played a major role at concluding the Paris climate deal during 2015. He wishes that people should remember him as a President who saved the world from the clutches of climatic adversities.
Richard Verma, the US Ambassador to India was in New Delhi recently. He praised India for supporting the Paris climate agreement. He termed the step of India as bold and decisive.
As per the news report, Verma expressed his gratefulness to Mr. Modi for playing the major role in the climate change agreement. He also extended thanks to those who have put efforts for several years to make the agreement successful. By joining the Paris climate agreement, India has taken a decisive and bold step to tackle climate change issues, said Verma in a statement.
According to Verma, ratification of India will offer indispensable political momentum. Such ratification will also make the agreement come into force effectively this year. The agreement will now highlight that low carbon emission norms will be the development of the 21st century.
India is the third largest country in the world to emit carbon. Currently, India has supported the Paris climate deal. India has given a major boost to the deal. The deal will become effective by the end of 2016. Verma said that India’s ratification of the deal will not only benefit consumers and producers in India but to the entire world.
As per the news report, Syed Akbaruddin, the Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador handed over the instrument of ratification to Santiago Villalpando. Santiago is the Head of the Treaties Division of the UN.
The instrument signed by the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee was handed over to Santiago at the special ceremony that was organized for commemorating the 147th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The ratification deals with the pledge, which each country takes for curbing or lowering greenhouse gas emission from 2020 onwards. The agreement also suggests the member countries ensure that the change in global temperature should not exceed 2 degrees Celsius. Each country should fix the target to keep the change of global temperature at 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Verma said that the US government looks forward to strengthening the diplomatic tie with India. The US government wishes to work closely with India to address climate change issues and develop clean energy. Such collaborations will make future generations proud.
India is the third biggest carbon emitter of the world after the US and China. The US and China account for 40% of the carbon emission of the world.
